[FoME] a new project

The Institute for Democracy, Media and Cultural Exhange (IDEM), based in 
Düsseldorf, Germany, has just received support of the United Nations' 
Democracy Fund (UNDEF)  for the 24-month project 'Empowerring People 
through Citizens' Journalism'. The IDEM and its partners, the 
non-governmental organisation IRIOM (www.iriomnet.org 
<http://www.iriomnet.org>)  and Tirana University,  *will establish a 
community (campus) radio* and a *web portal* in Tirana and provide local 
*civil society organisations*, looking after vulnerable groups in 
society, *direct access to the media*.  The station will carry a series 
of programmes on activities of these organisations . Additionally, this 
project will offer representatives of NGOs free participation in *six 
courses in public communication*.   As a result, the community will be 
better informed of important social themes, which are not reported on in 
the mainstream media.  The project has potential to be further developed 
to cover *main urban centres* and continue work with organisations 
*outside Tirana*.
