to send powerful message to G-8 Summit
Keynote address by Tony Blair, UK
German Bundestag, Berlin, June 3-4, 2007
UK Prime Minister Tony Blair MP will deliver a keynote address ahead of the G8
Summit to senior legislators from the eight leading industrialized countries and
from emerging economies (Brazil, China, India, Mexico, South Africa), together
with business leaders and high level representatives from international
organizations. The Prime Minister will address the GLOBE (Global Legislators
Organization for a Balanced Environment) Berlin Legislators Forum in the German
Bundestag, June 3-4. The Forum involving over 100 senior legislators will be
agreeing on a forward looking statement on climate change. Chancellor Merkel of
Germany and Prime Minister Abe of Japan will also both address the Forum by
video. The Japanese Prime Minister will be represented in person by his
National Security Advisor Ms Yuriko Koike MP.
?Law-makers have a fundamental role in shaping climate change legislation in
their countries. Together with the private sector they can make a difference by
recommending proposals that are not just politically realistic but also
practical and deliverable. G8 legislators are demanding action from the G8
leaders meeting in Heligendamm,? said Elliot Morley MP, President of GLOBE and
Member of the UK Parliament.
With climate change on the global agenda, COM+ is pleased to inform you of a
series of events designed for journalists in connection with the upcoming Forum.
More than 100 legislators from the 20 largest energy consuming countries will
participate, along with leaders from the private sector.
The Berlin Forum ? organized by the Global Legislators for a Balanced
Environment (GLOBE ? www.globeinternational.org) and COM+: Alliance of
Communicators for Sustainable Development (www.complusalliance.org) ? will
feature government representatives at the highest level from the United Kingdom
? Tony Blair, Germany ? Chancellor Angela Merkel (videotaped address), and
Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe MP, private sector representatives including
Jim Rogers, CEO Duke Energy, Prof Lars Josefsson, CEO Vattenfall, Sir Mark
Moody-Stuart, Chairman Anglo-American, Tony Hayward, Chief Executive Officer of
BP, and representatives of international financial institutions including
Monique Barbut, CEO of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), Kristalina
Georgieva, Strategy Director, Sustainable Development, World Bank, and Neil
Hirst, Research Director, International Energy Agency (IEA).
The forum will be hosted by eight German legislators including Michael Kauch MdB
and Frank Schwabe MdB.
