But why stay with a simple 'x' when you can expand that to
'experimental'? ;-)

Yes, the names derived from conventional patterns are awkward and I
suggest renaming our files in analogy to files from the hyph-utf8 package:

  hyph-de-1901-x-2013-05-26.pat|tex
  hyph-de-1996-x-2013-05-26.pat|tex
  hyph-de-ch-1901-x-2013-05-26.pat|tex

Mapping these files to hyph-utf8 just needs to remove the 'x-<date>'
part.  What do people think?
