The following is the output of smartctl -a /dev/sdb it says that long
tests take only 1 min. I remember them taking a much longer time so I let
my disk sit for 8 hours and then checked back (which is what you're
seeing in the output).
The SMART data says that the test passed and all is well, but I'm
concerned (YES, I do have backups.) that the drives time to test is
experiencing an integer overflow, much like it's power on hours have also
experienced an integer overflow.
I also have a second drive with the same problem but the power_on_hours
have not yet wrapped.
In a worst case scenario this would result in any testing of the HDD by
the HDD being completely useless and I'd appreciate any advice you can
give in this regard. I've never read or heard of this AFAIR and I did read
the usual sources (man page, odd emails to this list, README, FAQ).
The errors that have been logged were due to a failing MB chipset that
has since been replaced. Ignore them unless something really stands out.
Thanks,
David
