Information on smartmontools's compatibility with specific USB devices
can be found at

... but I don't see 0bc2:331a in that list.

This seems likely to be an example of the SAT ATA pass-through issue
under the Linux UAS driver, as described on:

Do any of the workarounds mentioned there work with this device?
