Because it might be SMR (shingled magnetic record) device, which
functionally are made similarly to SSDs consisting of slow main body and
faster few GB of normal faster "cache" area. With all the same problems w.
r. t. speed degradation, but on a whole new level.
It is believed that of still produced 2.5" consumer grade HDDs the only
still surviving non-shingled (CMR, PMR) device is 9mm 1TB WD Red (JFCX
model if my memory serves)
