Gasinsel **verweigert Übergabe an NGO-Boot **vor Tunesien*

Seit den frühen Morgenstunden am gestrigen Tag sitzen 53 Flüchtende auf 
einem Versorgungsschiff der Gasplattform Miskar vor der tunesischen 
Küste fest. Die deutsche Organisation CompassCollective 
<http://www.compass-collective.org/> ist vor Ort und bietet seit 24 
Stunden Hilfe an. Die tunesischen Behörden verweigern die weitere 
Koordinierung der Rettungsmaßnahmen, nachdem die Gruppe von 53 
Geflüchteten sich weigerte, das tunesische Navy Vessel 509 zu betreten.

Am 6.11. flüchteten sich die Menschen von ihrem seeuntüchtigen 
Schlauchboot auf die „Maridive 208“, einem nahe der Gasinsel Miskar 
ankernden Versorgungsschiff. Der Kapitän forderte die tunesische 
Koordinierungsstelle für Seenotrettung (MRCC) auf, tätig zu werden. 
Diese wiesen ihn an, die TROTAMAR III, die sich gerade in der Nähe 
befand, zu kontaktieren. Seitdem bietet die Besatzung des Segelbootes 
an, die 53 Menschen von der Maridive zu evakuieren und in Sicherheit zu 
bringen.

Das MRCC Tunis sandte gestern ein Navyschnellboot, um die Menschen nach 
Tunesien zurückzubringen. Dies wäre ein illegaler Pullback, wenn er 
gegen den Willen der Betroffenen erfolgen würde. Tatsächlich weigerten 
sich die Geflüchteten, das tunesische Boot zu betreten. Seitdem hat das 
MRCC Tunis jegliche Koordinierung weiterer Rettungsmaßnahme abgelehnt 
und gestern der Einsatzbegleitung telefonisch erklärt: „We do not have 
any instructions concerning this case."

Nun liegt die Verantwortung bei dem Betreiber der Bohrinsel. Miskar ist 
eine gasfördernde Plattform 120 Kilometer offshore. Betreiber ist 
vermutlich Amilcar Petroleum Operations.

Anstatt jetzt endlich die Menschen an das europäische rettungserfahrene 
Segelboot zu übergeben, verweigert der Betreiber die Herausgabe der 
Menschen. So werden 53 Menschen zum Spielball im Niemandsland zwischen 
den Machtinteressen eines Staates der laut Pro Asyl ein 
„Freiluftgefängnis für Schutzsuchende“ ist

Petroleumindustrie.

Gas platform refuses to hand over to NGO boat off Tunisia*

Since the early hours of yesterday morning, 53 refugees have been 
stranded on a supply ship belonging to the Miskar gas platform off the 
Tunisian coast. The German organisation CompassCollective 
<http://www.compass-collective.org/> is on site and has been offering 
assistance for 24 hours. The Tunisian authorities are refusing to 
coordinate further rescue efforts after the group of 53 refugees refused 
to board the Tunisian Navy Vessel 509.

On 6 November, the people fled from their unseaworthy rubber dinghy to 
the ‘Maridive 208’, a supply ship anchored near the Miskar gas island. 
The captain called on the Tunisian Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre 
(MRCC) to take action. They instructed him to contact the TROTAMAR III, 
which was nearby at the time. Since then, the crew of the sailing boat 
has been offering to evacuate the 53 people from the Maridive and bring 
them to safety.

Yesterday, the MRCC Tunis sent a navy speedboat to bring the people back 
to Tunisia. This would be an illegal pullback if it were carried out 
against the will of those affected. In fact, the refugees refused to 
board the Tunisian boat. Since then, the MRCC Tunis has refused to 
coordinate any further rescue measures and yesterday explained to the 
mission support team by telephone: ‘We do not have any instructions 
concerning this case.’

The responsibility now lies with the operator of the gas rig. Miskar is 
a gas-producing platform 120 kilometres offshore the tunesian coast. The 
operator is believed to be Amilcar Petroleum Operations.

Instead of finally handing the people over to the European 
rescue-experienced sailing boat, the operator is refusing to release 
them. As a result, 53 people are becoming pawns in the no-man's-land 
between the power interests of a state that, according to Pro Asyl, is 
an ‘open-air prison for those seeking protection’

industry.

The TROTAMAR III is a 13-metre-long sailing boat with rotating crews of 
activists. Since the start of the deployments in August 2023, the crews 
have assisted a total of 2,595 people in distress at sea and initiated 
their rescue by alerting the rescue coordination centre in Rome. 472 
people were rescued directly onto the TROTAMAR III.

Matthias Wiedenlübbert, skipper and head of operations on the TROTAMAR 
III: ‘As long as people are being held here on their way to Europe, the 
civilian sea rescue fleet will remain on alert. We demand the immediate 
disembarkation of the people on the TROTAMAR III so that they can reach 
a safe harbour that can also ensure the protection of human rights.’
