*22 Menschen gerettet- Segelboot im Hafen festgesetzt*

Nach der Rettung von 22 Menschen wurde gestern Abend einem deutschen 
Segelboot in Lampedusa verboten, den Hafen zu verlassen. Der Besatzung 
wird vorgeworfen, die sogenannte Libysche Küstenwache nicht informiert 
zu haben, als sie die Menschen aus einem seeuntüchtigen Boot gerettet 
haben. Die Festsetzung wird vorraussichtlich für 10- 20 Tage verordnet. 
Sie gilt ab gestern.

Am Morgen des 24.8.2025 entdeckte die Crew der TROTAMAR III vor der 
Küste Libyens ein Glasfaserboot in Seenot, in dem 3 Frauen und 19 Männer 
seit Stunden auf dem offenen Meer den Wellen ausgesetzt waren. Nach 
Übermittlung eines Notrufs an die italienischen und maltesischen 
Behörden, entschied sich der Skipper Matthias Wiedenlübbert, die 
Menschen direkt an Bord zu nehmen, um sie vor dem Ertrinken und einem 
drohenden illegalen Pullback durch die sogenannte Libysche Küstenwache 
nach Libyen zu schützen.

Schon am Vorabend, den 23.8.2025 um 21.15 Uhr wurde die TROTAMAR III 
massiv in ihrer Bewegungsfreiheit eingeschränkt und abgedrängt, als ein 
Patrouillenboot der sg. Lib. Küstenwache dicht an Backbord heranfuhr und 
im Funkverkehr auch mit „Fire“ (Schusswaffengebrauch) drohte. In diesem 
Fall war die Besatzung einem May Day Relay von Sparrow 2 („ blue wooden 
boat adrift, app. 30 people“) gefolgt und wurde mit Gewalt abgehalten, 
ihre Pflicht zur Seenotrettung zu erfüllen.

Die TROTAMAR III führt seit 2 Jahren Such- und Rettungseinsätze vor der 
tunesischen und libyschen Küste durch. In 18 Einsätzen konnten durch 
Alarmierung der zuständigen Rettungsleitzentralen 2345 Menschen von der 
italienischen Küstenwache gerettet werden, nachdem sie vorher mit 
Rettungswesten und Trinkwasser über Stunden von der Besatzung des 
zivilen Segelboots unterstützt wurden. 417 Menschen wurden bisher direkt 
auf das Segelboot gerettet und nach Lampedusa gebracht. Die 
verantwortlichen Skipper informieren dabei zeitnah und regelmäßig die 
Seenotzentralen in Rom und Malta, verweigern aber die Weitergabe von 
Position und Information über die Schiffbrüchigen an Behörden in 
Tripolis oder Tunis. „Würden wir die sogenannte Libysche Küstenwache 
über einen Seenotfall informieren,nähmenwir damit in Kauf, dass die 
Flüchtenden gewaltsam zurück nach Libyen verschleppt werden. Dies wäre 
dann keine Rettung, sondern ein ilegaler Pullback und somit Beihilfe zur 
Verletzung der Menschenrechte. Das ist weder mit geltendem Recht noch 
mit unserem Gewissen vereinbar“ so Matthias Wiedenlübbert, Skipper an 
Bord der TROTAMAR III.

Katja Tempel, Pressesprecherin des CompassCollective erklärt: „Wenn die 
italienische Regierung mit Rückenstärkung vieler europäischer Staaten 
die Zivile Seenotrettung kriminalisieren will, dann ziehen wir vor 
Gericht. Wir werden gegen die Festsetzung der Trotamar III klagen und 
die Umsetzung der UN- Menschenrechtskonvention fordern: Libyen und 
Tunesien können keinen Sicheren Hafen (Port/Place of Safety) für 
Flüchtende bieten, deshalb lassen wir unsere Rettungsaktionen nicht von 
ihnen koordinieren. Jeder Tag, an dem ein Seenotrettungsschiff 
festgesetzt ist, erhöht das Risiko, das mehr Menschen im Mittelmeer 
ertrinken.“

Die von der TROTAMAR III aufgenommenen Menschen waren aus Zuwara 
(Libyen) gestartet und stammen aus den Ländern Irak, Somalia, Ägypten, 
Sudan, Bangladesh und Äthiopien. Seit gestern Mittag sind sie in 
Lampedusa und werden dort in einem Hotspot versorgt, bis sie auf das 
italienische Festland gebracht werden.

*22 people rescued – sailing boat detained in port*

After rescuing 22 people yesterday evening, a German sailing boat was 
prohibited from leaving the port of Lampedusa. The crew is accused of 
not informing the so-called Libyan coast guard when they rescued the 
people from an unseaworthy boat. The detention is expected to last for 
10-20 days. It took effect yesterday.

On the morning of 24 August 2025, the crew of the TROTAMAR III 
discovered a fibreglass boat in distress off the coast of Libya, in 
which three women and 19 men had been exposed to the waves on the open 
sea for hours. After sending a distress call to the Italian and Maltese 
authorities, skipper Matthias Wiedenlübbert decided to take the people 
directly on board to protect them from drowning and an imminent illegal 
pullback to Libya by the so-called Libyan coast guard.

Already on the evening before, August 23, 2025, at 9:15 p.m., the 
TROTAMAR III was severely restricted in its freedom of movement and 
forced to turn away when a patrol boat of the so-called Libyan Coast 
Guard approached close to its port side and threatened to use firearms 
in radio communications. In this case, the crew had responded to a May 
Day relay from Sparrow 2 (“blue wooden boat adrift, approx. 30 people”) 
and was forcibly prevented from fulfilling its duty to rescue people in 
distress at sea.

The TROTAMAR III has been conducting search and rescue deployments off 
the Tunisian and Libyan coasts for two years. In 18 deployments, 2,345 
people have been rescued by the Italian coast guard after being alerted 
by the relevant rescue coordination centres, having previously been 
supported for hours by the crew of the civilian sailing boat with life 
jackets and drinking water. So far, 417 people have been rescued 
directly onto the sailing boat and taken to Lampedusa. The skippers in 
charge keep the maritime rescue centres in Rome and Malta updated 
regularly, but refuse to pass on the position and information about the 
shipwrecked people to the authorities in Tripoli or Tunis. "If we were 
to inform the so-called Libyan coast guard of a maritime emergency, we 
would be accepting that the refugees would be forcibly returned to 
Libya. This would not be a rescue, but an illegal pullback and thus an 
aid to the violation of human rights. This is neither compatible with 
applicable law nor with our conscience,‘ said Matthias Wiedenlübbert, 
skipper on board the TROTAMAR III.

Katja Tempel, press spokesperson for the Compass Collective, explains:

"If the Italian government, with the backing of many European states, 
wants to criminalise civilian sea rescue, then we will take them to 
court. We will take legal action against the detention of the TROTAMAR 
III and demand the implementation of the UN Convention on Human Rights: 
Libya and Tunisia cannot offer a safe haven (port/place of safety) for 
refugees, which is why we will not allow them to coordinate our rescue 
operations. Every day that a sea rescue ship is detained increases the 
risk of more people drowning in the Mediterranean."

The people taken on board the TROTAMAR III had set off from Zuwara 
(Libya) and come from Iraq, Somalia, Egypt, Sudan, Bangladesh and 
Ethiopia. They have been in Lampedusa since yesterday lunchtime and are 
being cared for in a hotspot by the Maldusa cultural association until 
they are taken to the Italian mainland.

The CompassCollective with the sailing boat TROTAMAR III comes from 
Wendland, a region in Lower Saxony that has been shaped by the debate on 
nuclear energy for 40 years. Civil society protests ultimately prevented 
a nuclear waste repository from being built in Gorleben and are now

*22 persone salvate - Barca a vela bloccata in porto*

Dopo aver salvato 22 persone, ieri sera a Lampedusa è stato vietato a 
una barca a vela tedesca di lasciare il porto. L'equipaggio è accusato 
di non aver informato la cosiddetta guardia costiera libica quando ha 
salvato le persone da un'imbarcazione non idonea alla navigazione. Il 
fermo è previsto per 10-20 giorni. È in vigore da ieri.

La mattina del 24 agosto 2025, l'equipaggio della TROTAMAR III ha 
avvistato al largo delle coste libiche un'imbarcazione in vetroresina in 
difficoltà, con a bordo 3 donne e 19 uomini che da ore erano in mare 
aperto in balia delle onde. Dopo aver lanciato una richiesta di soccorso 
alle autorità italiane e maltesi, lo skipper Matthias Wiedenlübbert ha 
deciso di prendere a bordo le persone per salvarle dall'annegamento e da 
un imminente respingimento illegale in Libia da parte della cosiddetta 
guardia costiera libica.

Già la sera prima, il 23 agosto 2025 alle 21:15, la TROTAMAR III era 
stata fortemente limitata nella sua libertà di movimento e spinta fuori 
rotta quando una motovedetta della cosiddetta Guardia Costiera Lib. si 
era avvicinata a babordo e aveva minacciato via radio anche di usare le 
armi da fuoco (“Fire”). In questo caso, l'equipaggio aveva seguito un 
May Day Relay di Sparrow 2 (“blue wooden boat adrift, app. 30 people”) 
ed era stato impedito con la forza di adempiere al proprio dovere di 
soccorso in mare.

Il TROTAMAR III effettua da due anni operazioni di ricerca e soccorso al 
largo delle coste tunisine e libiche. In 18 operazioni, grazie 
all'allarme lanciato alle centrali di soccorso competenti, 2345 persone 
sono state salvate dalla Guardia Costiera italiana, dopo essere state 
assistite per ore dall'equipaggio della barca a vela civile con 
giubbotti di salvataggio e acqua potabile. Finora 417 persone sono state 
salvate direttamente sulla barca a vela e portate a Lampedusa. Gli 
skipper responsabili informano tempestivamente e regolarmente i centri 
di soccorso marittimo di Roma e Malta, ma rifiutano di comunicare la 
posizione e le informazioni sui naufraghi alle autorità di Tripoli o 
Tunisi. "Se informassimo la cosiddetta guardia costiera libica di un 
caso di emergenza in mare, accetteremmo che i profughi venissero 
riportati con la forza in Libia. Questo non sarebbe un salvataggio, ma 
un pullback illegale e quindi un aiuto alla violazione dei diritti 
umani. Questo non è compatibile né con il diritto vigente né con la 
nostra coscienza“, ha dichiarato Matthias Wiedenlübbert, skipper a bordo 
della TROTAMAR III.

Katja Tempel, portavoce del CompassCollective, spiega: ”Se il governo 
italiano, con il sostegno di molti Stati europei, vuole criminalizzare 
il soccorso civile in mare, allora ricorreremo alla giustizia. Faremo 
ricorso contro il fermo della Trotamar III e chiederemo l'attuazione 
della Convenzione delle Nazioni Unite sui diritti umani: la Libia e la 
Tunisia non possono offrire un porto sicuro (Port/Place of Safety) ai 
profughi, quindi non permetteremo loro di coordinare le nostre 
operazioni di soccorso. Ogni giorno in cui una nave di soccorso in mare 
è fermata, aumenta il rischio che più persone anneghino nel Mediterraneo".

Le persone soccorse dalla TROTAMAR III erano partite da Zuwara (Libia) e 
provengono da Iraq, Somalia, Egitto, Sudan, Bangladesh ed Etiopia. Da 
ieri a mezzogiorno si trovano a Lampedusa, dove vengono assistiti in un 
hotspot in attesa di essere trasferiti sulla terraferma italiana.
