Ich kann jetzt nicht sagen ob dir das weiterhilft 
Ich hatte das Problem das der eine oder andere Client per NTLM autorisiert wurde obwohl
nur Plain und Login auf dem Server bereitgestellt werden sollte/wurde.
Ich habe das Problem dadurch umgangen in dem ich Debian die entsprechenden Dateien aus dem
Verzeichnis /usr/lib/sasl2 entfernt habe (zugegebener Maßen nicht die sauberste Lösung
aber seitdem rennt alles wie es soll)

Probiere es doch einfach mal aus diese Dateien per mv in ein sicheres Verzeichnis zu
verlagern. Wenn du sowieso kein MD5 und NTLM anbietest sollte alles andere weiterhin
funktionieren.
Einen Versuch ist es wert ich habe weder in Google noch sonst wo bis dato etwas darüber
gefunden(werde auf der Cebit mal schauen ob ich ein paar Debian Freaks finde und die mal
fragen).
