Wie Patrick schon schrub reicht das Runterdrehen des loglevels
nicht. IIRC wird obiges nach auth.debug geloggt. Du könntest somit
in syslog.conf anstelle

  auth,authpriv.* -/var/log/auth.log

nur alles ab info loggen lassen:

  auth.info,authpriv.* -/var/log/auth.log

Bei mir hat das geholfen. Da ich bei mir syslog.conf aber etwas
verdreht habe (um courier getrennt zu loggen), musst Du das an
Deine Gegebenheiten ggf. noch etwas anpassen.
