Hi all

As I see it, many of the old divisions within the European left
(reformist/revolutionary; communist/social-democrat; Marxist/non-Marxist
etc. etc.) have long outlived their usefulness.

It seems to me that the main division these days is between, on the one
hand, those who want to administer the existing order as the "left" wing
of the ruling classes, and, on the other, those who want to contribute
to the struggle against the ruling classes. This division largely
coincides with the division between the "NATO-left" on the one hand and
the peace-movement left on the other. The ELP, of course, should be
firmly for peace and against the bosses.

The question is, how can we help gather together the different forces
(leftists, communists and ex-communists, left-wing greens, the left of
the labour and socialist movements etc.) who are on our side of this
divide? How can we work together as effectively as possible? It seems
clear to me that a doctrinaire party of the old Marxist-Leninist type,
with a single "line" would be worse than useless. On the other hand, we
have little experience in Europe of broad, non-sectarian, but
consistently left-wing politics. Such a combination must surely be
possible, if we can only find it...

Cheers

Francis
