For a Social Europe!

European Left Chairman Lothar Bisky is at the moment participating at the
5th regular Congress of Synaspismos (Coalition of the left, of movements and
ecology) in Athens. During his speech on Thursday evening he stressed out
that the goal of the Left must be the construction of a social Europe. He
stated: "European Opportunities don't bear on dreams of free trade areas and
bigger profits, but on a political project of peace and a European Social
model." The recent resolution of the EL network of trade unionists for
minimum social standards in Europe goes in this direction.

On the occasion of the NATO conference in Vilnius, Bisky states in the view
of the situation in Afghanistan a complete collapse of the NATO strategy.
"Only Disarmament, political dialogue und the strict implementation of
international law can solve inner- and intergovernmental conflicts of
interest and guarantee enduring peace and stability in the interest of all
people and the environment."

On Monday Lotahr Bisky travels on to Cyprus to support Dimitris Christofias,
presidential candidate of A.K.E.L.
