I mention the case of SAT because it was forbidden amongst others
by Salazar and Stalin. Even during the esperanto world congress in 1987, =
its meeting in Warsaw was forbidden by Jaruzelki's regime.
Salazar feared that the spread of Esperanto in the Portuguese working =
class would strengthen the contacts with equivalents elsewhere in the =
world. He was not wrong : it worked !
The case of an non-ethnic language as a linguistic tool has not been=20
developped enough in the EL. People like us can manage in English
for the moment. But sociologically who are we ? People,mostly, who have =
studied 8 or more years after the Primary School,aren't we ?
The case of Esperanto should be carefully studied as a tool to have more =
working class people in our debates. It seems that the debate,
if an ethnic language is used, could be confiscated by the lucky ones
who can speak English. That is already done in Trade-Unions and other =
NGO's. Isn't there a danger of shifting values behind this?
Besides native speakers of English will always be privileged in that =
context.
Discrimination in languages is a form of very subtle racialism

equality to promote English only.
