[Individual-members-EL] situation of the individual members

Uli,
Good to hear from you. I've just got back from the 2nd Trade Union network
in Athens which was very good and the Greek comrades did a great job. I
attended as an individual as the Union I work for is non-party political and
I keep a very strict distance between what i do for work and what I do
personally.
Our EL GB network continues to be six people. I met Francis earlier in the
year and we had a good talk at waterloo station. Bob is still working on
the website which is taking so much longer because he does so many
commercial ones that ours has to wait. But he's still keen on it and has
promised to finish it soon. There is another comrade Ben and two I have
never met so far. So we are small but 'large oaks from little acorns grow'.
I think that while the national networks are important the individual
members should be the start of the EL as a single Europe wide party. This
is the only direction that makes sense for me so I think we should 'act
locally and think globally' or a least Europe wide. I think we should seek
delegates to the Congress. I have already told Martin I wish to attend. I
went as a guest to the Founding Conference and paid my own passage. I think
we should have a representative at this Congress. Of course if the answer
came back yes I would check the the GB comrades they were happy for me to do
it. Personally I think any individual member who wants to attend should be
able to.
The more I attend and the more I see the clearer I am that EL works as a
European Party and is more limited in its confederation of national parties
mode. I hope to get to the Summer University in Austria and there is the
3rd Trade Union network in Austria in February 2008. With the Congress in
November there is starting to be enough EL activity to feel like something
interesting happening. It's been a bit slower to this point.
Best wishes
Stephen Spence
