Hi all, hi Joseph, hi Martin,
I think Joseph's suggestions on making the EL known in the public etc. are really good.
A demo in Strasbourg on May 1st, organised jointly by ETUC and EL, would show that we have strong
allies and speak for the people. I think our Brussels office and the GUE/NGL group in the European Parliament have
contacts with the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC ). Maybe MArtin can say sth. about this option.
I'm afraid the ETUC will not make an alliance just with us. They seem quite PES-friendly and might try to take
other parties in for a demo to retain their non-partisan image. But you never know... I think we should try it.
The EL already intervenes by official declarations of support of different memberparties of EL in some national political debates and elections from time to time, especially by statements on our website. I think EL-representatives should be seen and
speak to the people more often in election campaigns and other events.
Maybe during the campaign in France in spring the communist party of France should ask the EL to send representatives
to hold speeches that are then translated or held in French. We have to make sure such statements are not just
solidarity addresses but promote the common EL goals preparing the people for a possible 2009 EP-election with
truly European parties.
E-petitions to our Executive Board, especially if sent in a large number, might get on the ExB's nerves more than really helping us. But Joseph, you could write a letter/e-mail to them/to Helmut Scholz with our/your suggestions as you did in your last e-mail to our mailing list. How about that?
Kind regards
Uli
