Liebe Leute,

die EU-Kommission beabsichtigt  am 29.11. das Verbot von GMOs in  der EU  zu
stürzen.
 Dieses Verbot besteht in Frankreich, Deutschland, Griechenland, Luxemburg
und Österreich, um die Verbraucher und die Umwelt zu schützen.

Im November will die Kommission   ihre Mitgliedsstaaten  veranlassen, gegen
diese Verbote stimmen. Dann haben die 5 Staaten ihr nationales Verbot
aufzuheben und zu erlauben, dass risikoreiche GMOs  eingeführt werden.

Die Kommission  handelt unter dem Druck der Klage, die die USA u.a. bei der
WTO gegen die EU  im Mai 2003 angestrengt haben.
Eine Entscheidung für die grüne Biotechnologie würde weltweit ein Signal
für andere Länder bedeuten ihre Vorbehalte aufzuheben.

Stoppt die EU-Kommission!
Sendet ein Fax oder eine Email  an die Bundesregierung!
 Fordert,  dass sie gegen  die Absicht der Kommission stimmt
und das Recht auf Vorsorge schützt
anstatt die Gesundheit der BürgerInnen und  und die Umwelt  aufs Spiel zu
setzen!

Dear Minister,

on 29 November, at a member states' meeting in Brussels, the European
Commission will call for a vote against national bans of genetically
modified (GM) food that Austria, France, Greece, Germany and Luxembourg have
put in place

I am writing to urge you to vote against these proposals. Countries have the
right to prohibit such foods and crops, in order to protect their
environment and public health. Such actions follow the Precautionary
Principle, as set out in the Biosafety Protocol, in light of scientific
uncertainty on the safety of GM food.

I believe this vote shows that the Commission is acting under pressure from
the US-led trade dispute in the World Trade Organisation (WTO) on European
restrictions on GMOs. The dispute seeks to pave the way for the US to force
Europe to accept GMOs against the opinion of the majority of the people in
those countries. It will also enhance the ability of the WTO to put
commercial concerns before the right to protect people or the environment at
a time when many are calling for corporate power to be properly curbed.

I urge you to vote against the Commission's proposals and respect the right
of governments to to take a precautionary approach to GM foods and crops.
