Dear Colleagues,

Press freedom and democratic resilience are under growing pressure worldwide. In 2025, the RSF Index reached a new low point, with journalism conditions rated “difficult” or “very serious” in over half of the world’s countries. At the same time, media capture, threats to journalist safety, declining trust, disinformation, and government crackdowns continue to weaken information ecosystems and democratic participation.

In response to these challenges, the Team Europe Democracy (TED) initiative — through its Working Group 3 on Information Integrity — has developed a toolkit together with members and partners to support the implementation of the OECD DAC Principles on Relevant and Effective Support to Media and the Information Environment. The toolkit is designed to turn these principles into practical guidance for programme managers, policy officers, strategic leads, and others working in the field. It helps stakeholders make media and information-integrity support more relevant, effective, and sustainable.

The toolkit will be launched during a side event at the Global Media Forum on 25 June in Bonn. The session will introduce the toolkit to the GMF community, discuss how to translate the OECD DAC Principles into action, and showcase how participants can use and access the toolkit in their own work.

We warmly invite you to join us for this event and take part in the exchange on how to strengthen support for media and the information environment.
