[FoME] May 16 & 17 Syria Case hearing of the People's Tribunal on the Murder of Journalists in the Hague

Dear, 

Kindly find attached the Save the Date for the Syria Case Hearing on the situation of impunity for crimes against journalists in Syria, and the emblematic case of the murder of journalist Nabil Al-Sharbaji. 

The Hearing will take place in the Hague on 16 and 17 May, in The Hague Hearing Center. The hearing is organised in partnership with Reporters without Borders, the Committee to Protect Journalists and the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression. The working language of the hearing will be English, with translation to Arabic provided.

There will also be a online live stream link you can join. 

During the hearing, witnesses will provide testimony during both days. Witnesses include Syrian journalists and relatives of journalists murdered in reprisal for their work, as well as witnesses who knew Nabil Al-Sharbaji and will provide testimony about his journalistic work, life, and treatment in prison.

منذ مطلع القرن، دفع أكرث من 1000 صحفي حياتهم مثنا للكشف عن الحقيقة بينام يستمر القتلة يف اإلفالت من العدالة، يف أكرث من مثانية من كل عرشة من هذه الحاالت. يف خطوة جدية نحو تحقيق العدالة، قام كل من منظمة حرية صحافةغري محدودة ولجنة حامية الصحفيني ومراسلون بال حدود بتأسيس محكمة الشعب الخاصة بجرائم قتل الصحفيني لتوجيه االتهام إىل الدول التي تفشل يف تنفيذ التزاماتها بضامن سالمة الصحفيني. 

وحول جلسة االستامع يف قضية سوريا، قام املدعي العام للمحكمة )املودينا برنابيو( بالتحقيق يف سلوك الحكومة السورية يف قضية مقتل الصحفي )نبيل الرشبجي(. وتزعم الئحةاالتهام أن الحكومة السورية مسؤولة عن انتهاك حق نبيل يف عدم التعرض للتعذيب والحق يف الحياة والحق يف حرية التعبري.
