Applications are invited for a *post-doc position *at Rhodes University
in Grahamstown/*South Africa*.

This is a *12-months full time position* renewable depending on the
availability of funds - R 180 000 per annum and additional funds are
available to support research and conference presentations. South
African and foreign citizens from a wide range of disciplinary
backgrounds will be considered.

The position is hosted by the ICT Education Unit in the Education
Department, but the successful candidate will be part  of a
multi-disciplinary team. In rural and peri-urban areas of the Eastern
Cape Province of South Africa, mobile phones play an important role in
mediating the relationship with the local territory. The project
"€œ*Mediating the territory: mobile phones and hyperlocal services in
marginalised areas*" seeks to explore such a role through exploratory
research, adaptation and implementation of mobile service platforms and
evaluation of the impact. The project seeks to capacitate members of
marginalised communities to preserve resources and minimise waste in the
area where they live.

Besides playing an active role in the project, the successful candidate
is expected to publish the equivalent of two articles in subsidy-earning
journals a year, to contribute to teaching and post-graduate supervision
and to assist with administration and logistics.

Submissions are open until the position is filled. The starting date of
the contract is 1 September 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter.
