The German Association of Communication Studies (DGPuK), its section for International and Intercultural Communication and the Network for International and Intercultural Communication (NIIK) are glad to pre-announce the opportunity for a PhD workshop on media, communication, and migration with a special perspective from Africa and the Global South.

The workshop will be part of a larger conference on »Refugees and Migration – African and European Perspectives« that will be the kick-off event for the Erich Brost Institute for International Journalism project »Journalism in a Global Context (JiGC)«. The project is supported by the Federal Foreign Office and aims to promote joint traineeships for African and German journalists. 

Within this framework there is the unique opportunity to discuss early-stage or on-going dissertation projects with leading peers from the African continent who will share their expertise by individual project feedbacks.

PhD students who intend to take part in the workshop should contact us as soon as possible, but no later than August 31, 2015. Against the backdrop of restricted capacities we follow the »first come, first serve« principle. Please, provide an outline of your PhD project (extended abstract, max. 2 pages), a CV  <>and where appropriate a set of questions you specifically like to address.

It is anticipated that the workshop will take place at the end of October 2015, most likely in calendar week 43 or 44. The final date will be made public as soon as the conference schedule is settled.
