[FoME] Invit, Radio in Tanzania

Dear Friends,

Ashoka, MiCT and IXDS have the pleasure of inviting you to meet Tanzanian Ashoka Fellow and community media pioneer Joseph Sekiku. The community radio station Joseph founded in 2006 in rural north-west Tanzania, Fadeco Radio, airs agricultural, health and information programmes to up to six million listeners in Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda, all in the Swahili language. Fadeco has also pioneered alternative funding approaches for regional radio in Tanzania, thanks mainly to the innovative approaches of founder Joseph. 
Joseph Sekiku is also the head of COMNETA, the Community Media Network of Tanzania, an association for community media in Tanzania. COMNETA unites more than two dozen small, ´mainly rural, community media entities under one umbrella, allowing them to share resources and content. It also helps the community radios to present themselves as a larger organism to national advertisers and international donors. 

Our Q & A with Joseph is also an opportunity to introduce the findings of our recent study on the financial sustainability of Tanzanian radios and POCKET FM, a unique, small and low-power radio transmitter developed by IXDS and MiCT.
