Interested in the hardest job you'll ever love? The Organized Crime and
Corruption Reporting Project, an award-winning international non-profit and
development organization is seeking an experienced investigative
editor/producer to oversee cross border reporting projects in the Caucasus,
Russia and Ukraine. Requires a self-starter with the ability to work across
cultures and in austere and sometimes difficult environment. Teaching and
leadership skills a must. The job is based in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia
but other travel is required. Experience working internationally and
Russian or other regional language skills are big plusses. Housing paid.
One year contract that is renewable. Starts immediately. Send CV and letter
of interest to jobs at occrp.org. Deadline is Aug 15, 2012.

On a personal note, I’ve worked a lot of gigs in my days as an
investigative reporter and this is potentially the best gig in the business
for real reporting -- for the right person. But you got to be motivated.
We throw away stories that would make careers in the US or Europe. If you
want to work on international money laundering, Russian organized crime,
Ukrainian corruption, sovereign crime and failed states, the criminal
services industry, the globalization of illicit networks – basically the
toughest stories in the toughest place to work them – this is your job. But
the most rewarding aspect is you get to work with the best regional
journalists. It might restore your faith in our profession as it has
restored mine. In some countries like the UK and the US, journalism is
about quality of life issues. Out here, it is still about life and death.
