CALL FOR APPLICATION
The International Institute for Journalism (IIJ) of InWEnt - Capacity Building International, Germany, announces a one-week training course on "Economic and Financial Reporting" to be held in Dasmcus from June 15 to 19, 2008.
The training course is open to journalists from Syria who work for print and online media.
Course objective and outline:
The Syrian economy is changing. Multiple reforms implemented in the past few years have set the course of gradual liberalisation, including opening private banks, encouraging local and foreign investment, and establishing a stock market. The Damascus Stock Exchange is set to begin operations this year. These changes have an impact both on the domestic market and on the everyday lives of Syrians. Within this transformation process, journalists have a crucial role: They are the ones who provide readers with the information needed to understand the changes developing in the Syrian economy. The course aims to equip journalists to report effectively on economic and business issues.
The syllabus will include the following topics:
- economic reporting and the role of information in a modern economy
- understanding oil markets
- reporting commodity markets
- company reporting
- stock market reporting
- writing economic features
The training will be held at the Goethe Institute, 8, Adnan Malki Street, Damascus.
Applicants should
- have a minimum of 4 years of professional experience
- be not older than 35 years
- be able to understand and write in English
- have a strong interest in economic issues and business journalism
Kindly address any inquiries directly to the IIJ (britta.scholtys at inwent.org or eberhard.pflieger at inwent.org) or the German Embassy in Damascus.
