hi,

the mentioned aspell is no option for German at all as compound word support like in hunspell does not exist there. But please send me the results of the hunspell tests and i'll have a look.

for the locale issue you mentioned - dud you try using a valid UTF-8 locale like de_DE.UTF-8 ?

i'd be interested in what you do with that project but honestly i'm quite convinced that extending a dictionary and working out compound word support has to be manual bone work. anything else will generate too many errors imho or will just not work.
