>From https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=2213996#p2213996 --> I decided to check SMART data of my nvme drive and just to make sure it's properly up to date (though afaik this should not really strictly be necessary on nvme) I ran a self test. A couple of minutes later, on what I assume to be the end of said self test, everything freezes. Running commands fails, switching VT fails, breaking out the good old REISUB which does get me to a terminal accompanied by some concerning messages about being unable to remount the root fs. Thinking well that is weird, I get greeted by grub-rescue, that my root fs is nowhere to be found. Running through the GRUB shell commands shows indeed, the disk is nowhere. Rebooting into the closest linux related USB I had handy, some older sysrescuecd image that doesn't come up at all (that however could indeed be because I likely didn't update that in a while and my HW being too new for it...) Somewhat concerned rebooting into Windows (which is on another disk), sure enough the disk isn't even showing up there. Fearing that I might've just fried my drive and dreading the backup restore (and generally procuring another SSD...), I decide to give a hard shutdown a try (long power button press etc) which restored it being discoverable and everything working as if nothing happened, checking the SMART data shows also nothing out of the ordinary and it even listing the self test as successfully completed.

Report for occurence of error from me, with more details -- https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=306106
