I have a WDC PC SN530 SDBPNPZ-1T00-1006 drive, and smartctl is having
odd issues with it. It's on an Ryzen based laptop, so it's using an AMD
chipset in Windows 10 (I know the Intel SSD drivers don't work with
smartctl and NVME, so I test those with Ubuntu).
Here's the issue. The first time I ran the long test from a batch file,
and the test didn't run at all. I then ran it manually from the command
line:
smartctl -t long /dev/sda
and as you can see below, the test completed. I tried again with the
batch file (which I confirmed was using the identical command line, and
it failed with the output:
smartctl 7.4 2023-08-01 r5530 [x86_64-w64-mingw32-w10-2004] (sf-7.4-1)
Copyright (C) 2002-23, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org
NVMe Self-test cmd with type=0x2, nsid=0xffffffff failed:
IOCTL_STORAGE_PROTOCOL_COMMAND(NVMe) failed, Error=31
I tried it again manually entering the command, and now it gives the
same error.
I'm assuming the NVME driver is to blame, but I wanted to check.
I would try a newer build of smartctl, but when I try to download either
the the two latest builds (r5613 or r5612) it tells me "not found" for
the Windows version.
Thanks for any advice.
The specs on the drive are below.
