Hi all:

I have a disk which smartd automatically warns about:

----8<----8<----8<----
This message was generated by the smartd daemon running on:

    host name: <my hostname>
    DNS domain: [Empty]

The following warning/error was logged by the smartd daemon:

Device: /dev/sda [SAT], 18 Offline uncorrectable sectors

Device info:
ST31000524AS, S/N:9VPF500W, WWN:5-000c50-03fca1872, FW:JC47, 1.00 TB

For details see host's SYSLOG.

You can also use the smartctl utility for further investigation.
The original message about this issue was sent at Wed Aug 10 14:03:22 2022 CEST
Another message will be sent in 24 hours if the problem persists.
----8<----8<----8<----

There is a similar warning about another (probably related) attribute too:

Device: /dev/sda [SAT], 18 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors

However, this command:

sudo smartctl /dev/sda --health

still says:

=== START OF READ SMART DATA SECTION ===
SMART overall-health self-assessment test result: PASSED

Is that not surprising? I mean, if a disk is being warned about, shouldn't the overall assessment state at least "WARNING"?

I am using the smartmontools version that comes with Ubuntu 22.04.1:

smartctl 7.2 2020-12-30 r5155 [x86_64-linux-5.15.0-53-generic] (local build)

Regards,
