[smartmontools-support] problem with scterc on a mac

Thanks Christian for your clear reply.
So the Mac, using Darwin, can't use smartmontools' stcerc command to set the erc times on a SATA drive.
I can set up a Linux system to do that.
But will the same Mac, based as it is on Darwin, then have incomplete communication with that SATA drive, defeating the drive's erc settings?  
Is error recovery control handled by the drive alone or does it require collaboration with the computer?
