I have a WD EasyStore 8TB (Model WDBCKA0080HBK-NESN) that is giving the
attached error. I see no errors in the S.M.A.R.T. drive logs, nor do I see
any problems when manually running tests on the drive. The drive is only 3
days old. I have also been seeing this on my other USB drive (WD EasyStore
4TB model WDBCKA0040HBK-NESN. I cannot tell if this is a false positive or
not. I have been getting emails off and on for the past day. Usually every
couple of hours.

Here is what I see in my syslog:

Sep 24 08:10:54 Henry-Server smartd[845]: Device: /dev/sdg [SAT], not
capable of SMART self-check
Sep 24 08:10:56 Henry-Server smartd[845]: Device: /dev/sdg [SAT], failed to
read SMART Attribute Data

Later, I get the following:

Sep 24 08:40:43 Henry-Server smartd[845]: Device: /dev/sdg [SAT], read
SMART Attribute Data worked again, warning condition reset after 1 email

Here is my output from smartctl -a -d sat /dev/sdg:

smartctl 6.6 2016-05-31 r4324 [x86_64-linux-4.10.0-35-generic] (local build)
