Hello,
Here is the smartctl info for a new WD Elements enclosure with a 10TB
WD101EMAZ drive. According to internet gossip, this would be a white
label equivalent of the relatively new WD Red air-filled 10TB disk,
which is slightly faster than the previous helium-filled drive but runs
very hot.
This info was generated by an old smartctl version (6.4) running on an
old MacBook Pro (2008) under an old system (MacOS 10.8.4), via a
"NanoTech" ExpressCard|34 which adds USB 3.0. Smartctl did not work
through the MacBook's built-in USB 2.0 ports.
It is perhaps a bit flakey via the ExpressCard USB 3.0 ports -- between
the "smartctl -t short" command and the "smartctl -x" that generated the
output I'm sending, "smartctl -x" failed twice with an error "Read
Device Identity failed: empty IDENTIFY data." Or perhaps the self-test
took rather longer than the two minutes it announced when it started.
Here is the "smartctl -x" output, which I'm also attaching as a text
file.
