Because there is no dedicated "history folder". There is a config, data and
cache folder (which are all listed in :version) and the history is in the data
folder.

Short answer: Mostly performance, because SQL allows to bridge the data to Qt's
GUI widgets easily. Also, it's not like it's a completely foreign format, you
can edit it by launching sqlite on it.
