*Festsetzung der TROTAMAR III nach Rettung von 18 Menschen*

Seit gestern, 23.4.2026 ist das deutsche Segelboot TROTAMAR III auf 
Lampedusa festgesetzt und darf ihren Einsatz auf dem Mittelmeer nicht 
fortsetzen. Am Abend des 21. April 2026 hatte die Crew 18 Menschen aus 
einem seeuntüchtigen Schlauchboot gerettet.

Seit dem 16. April hielt die Besatzung des Segelbootes nach Seenotfällen 
Ausschau. Mehrmals gab es Alarmierungen, doch wurden viele Menschen in 
diesen Tagen von der sogenannten libyschen  oder der in tunesischen 
Küstenwache abgefangen und illegal zurückgeführt. Dieses Schicksal hätte 
auch die 18 in Seenot Geratenen ereilen können, doch sie wurden 
Dienstagnachmittag von unserer Crew entdeckt, bevor die tunesische 
Marine sie erreichen konnte. Nach der Ausgabe von Rettungswesten wurden 
die Menschen kurz vor Sonnenuntergang an Bord genommen und am frühen 
Morgen des 22.4. an die italienischen Behörden in Lampedusa übergeben. 
Dort wurde am 23.4. ein Auslaufverbot erteilt, da die Rettung dieser 
Menschen nicht von den tunesischen Behörden koordiniert wurde.

Seit der Aufnahme der Rettungstätigkeit im Mittelmeer hat sich das 
CompassCollective aus dem Wendland geweigert, die sogenannte libysche 
oder tunesische Küstenwache zu Hilfe zu rufen. Stattdessen informierte 
die Skipperin die italienische und maltesische Rettungsleitzentrale.

Ina Friebe, Skipperin und Einsatzleiterin an Bord der TROTAMAR III, 
erklärt dazu: „Die Menschen fliehen aus Ländern, die die Menschenrechte 
nicht wahren. Wenn ich die tunesischen Behörden informiert hätte, wären 
die 18 Menschen in Seenot Gefahr gelaufen, illegal nach Tunesien 
zurückgeführt zu werden. Stattdessen habe ich die Seenotleitzentralen in 
Malta und Italien informiert, die einen sicheren Ort garantieren können 
- so wie es das internationale Seerecht vorschreibt.“

Tunesien hat in der Vergangenheit durchgängig gezeigt, dass 
systematische Diskriminierung, Ausbeutung und Gewalt, Verweigerung von 
Arbeitsrechten, das Aussetzen von Menschen in der Wüste und 
Menschenhandel mit libyschen Gruppen alltäglich ist.

Die TROTAMAR III führt seit mehr als 2 Jahren Such- und Rettungseinsätze 
vor der tunesischen und libyschen Küste durch. In 23 Einsätzen konnten 
durch Alarmierung der zuständigen Rettungsleitzentrale 1992 Menschen von 
der italienischen Küstenwache gerettet werden, nachdem sie vorher mit 
Rettungswesten und Trinkwasser über Stunden von der Besatzung des 
zivilen Segelboots unterstützt wurden.398 Menschen wurden bisher direkt 
auf das Segelboot gerettet und nach Lampedusa in Sicherheit gebracht.

Die von der TROTAMAR III aufgenommenen Menschen waren aus Abukamash 
(Libyen) gestartet und stammen aus den Ländern Bangladesh, Somalia und 
Sudan. Schon gestern Abend sind sie von Lampedusa  auf das italienische 
Festland gebracht worden.

Das CompassCollective mit dem Segelboot TROTAMAR III stammt aus dem 
Wendland, der Region in Niedersachsen, die 40 Jahre lang von der 
Auseinandersetzung um die Atomenergie geprägt wurde. 
Zivilgesellschaftlicher Protest konnte am Ende ein Atommüll-Endlager in 
Gorleben verhindern und bringt jetzt den Rückenwind, um solidarisch 
gegen Abschottung und das Sterben auf dem Mittelmeer anzusegeln.

*TROTAMAR III detained following the rescue of 18 people*

Since yesterday, 23 April 2026, the German sailing boat TROTAMAR III has 
been detained in Lampedusa and is not permitted to continue its 
deployment in the Mediterranean. On the evening of 21 April 2026, the 
crew rescued 18 people from an unseaworthy rubber dinghy.

Since 16 April, the crew of the sailing boat had been on the lookout for 
distress situations. There had been several alerts, but in recent days 
many people had been intercepted by the so-called Libyan or Tunisian 
coastguard and illegally returned. The same fate could have befallen the 
18 people in distress, but they were spotted by our crew on Tuesday 
afternoon before the Tunisian navy could reach them. After being issued 
with life jackets, the people were taken on board shortly before sunset 
and handed over to the Italian authorities in Lampedusa in the early 
morning of 22 April. There, a ban on leaving port was issued on 23 
April, as the rescue of these people had not been coordinated by the 
Tunisian authorities.

Since commencing rescue operations in the Mediterranean, the 
CompassCollective from the Wendland region has refused to call on the 
so-called Libyan or Tunisian coastguard for assistance. Instead, the 
skipper informed the Italian and Maltese rescue coordination centre.

Ina Friebe, skipper and operations manager on board the TROTAMAR III, 
explains: “People are fleeing countries that do not uphold human rights. 
If I had informed the Tunisian authorities, the 18 people in distress 
would have been at risk of being returned illegally to Tunisia. Instead, 
I informed the maritime rescue coordination centres in Malta and Italy, 
which can guarantee a safe place – as required by international maritime 
law.”

Tunisia has consistently demonstrated in the past that systematic 
discrimination, exploitation and violence, the denial of labour rights, 
the abandonment of people in the desert and human trafficking involving 
Libyan groups are commonplace.

The TROTAMAR III has been carrying out search and rescue operations off 
the Tunisian and Libyan coasts for more than two years. In 23 
deployments, 1,992 people were rescued by the Italian coastguard after 
the relevant rescue coordination centre was alerted, having previously 
been supported for hours by the crew of the civilian sailing boat with 
life jackets and drinking water. 398 people have so far been rescued 
directly onto the sailing boat and brought to safety in Lampedusa.

The people taken aboard the TROTAMAR III had set out from Abukamash 
(Libya) and are from Bangladesh, Somalia and Sudan. They were brought 
from Lampedusa to the Italian mainland yesterday evening.

The CompassCollective, with the sailing boat TROTAMAR III, hails from 
the Wendland, the region in Lower Saxony that was shaped for 40 years by 
the debate over nuclear energy. Civil society protests ultimately 
succeeded in preventing a nuclear waste repository in Gorleben and are 
now providing the momentum to sail in solidarity against isolationism 
and the loss of life in the Mediterranean.
