Together for Change in Europe - 21st Century Europe needs Peace, Democracy,
Social Justice and Solidarity

Common Electoral Platform of the European Left

At the Electoral Conference in Berlin on 29 November 2008, the European Left
adopted a common electoral platform and common positions on the financial
crisis and a feminist Europe for the 2009 elections to the European
Parliament.

The elections to the European Parliament in June 2009 will be an opportunity
to change the foundations of the European Union, and to open a new
perspective for Europe. We are facing financial, economic and social crises,
a crisis of the whole system, which continues to propagate day by day. This
crisis only further amplifies the problems the world community is
experiencing in reference to the food, energy and ecological issues. It
deepens the gender gap. In fact, this crisis affects the lives of all people
in Europe and in the world. READ

Forum focussed on the Pan Amazon region. Main issues dealt with the defence
of the rights of indigenous communities, environment, the preservation of

To the Youth of Greece, to the Youth of Europe

Declaration of the European Left Council of Chairpersons and Executive Board
at the extraordinary meeting in Athens on 17 January 2009

The European Left Party is gathered today in Athens not only to express its
complete solidarity with the uprising of the Greek youth, with the brother
party Synaspismos, with SYRIZA and with all the left and democratic forces,
but because the fight of the youth, the educational community and workers in
Greece touched the hearts of the people and the youth in every corner of
Europe. READ <http://www.european-left.org/english/news/declaration/> MORE

Women as Workers for Peace, Menders of Peace, and Preservers of Peace

EL fem Peace Seminar in Leipzig

>From 17 to 18 January 2009 the EL fem network, in cooperation with the
feminist network LISA of Die Linke, organised a seminar in Leipzig, where 90
women from 13 countries participated with ideas and proposals for peace
initiatives.

Three working groups dealing with the role of women in the Middle East peace
process, with the opposition to US military bases and the 60th anniversary
of NATO, and with the concept of culture of peace, were the main platform of
discussion and elaboration of future projects. READ

Ceasefire now! Stop the war! EL mobilize for peace

Resolution of the European Left adopted at the Executive Board meeting in
Berlin on 10 January 2009

The Executive Board meeting of the Party of the European Left is taking
place 14 days after the start of the aggression of the Israeli army against
the Palestinian people in Gaza. In these dramatic days, it is necessary for
the largest mobilization of the peace movement to support the demand of the
end of the war. The European Left appeals to its member parties to mobilize
in the next days in this sense.

The European Left strongly condemns the Israeli invasion of Gaza, which
provokes a heavy loss of lives, most of them civilians, including many
children. There is no justification whatsoever for the collective punishment
of the people living in this densely populated strip, who were already
facing the tragic consequences of a long blockade. READ

Another Middle East is possible

EL Middle East Conference in Istanbul on 19-20 December 2008

The conference was held at a historic moment when those who are victims of
globalisation at large, the unemployed, workers, farmers and agricultural
producers, pensioners, women and young people, and all those struggling for
democracy, peace, ecology and freedoms are encountering the same problems
and expressing the same demands. This is why this conference is of great
importance in furthering the solidarity and developing the common struggle
between the forces of democracy and labour in the region and within the
European Left. READ
