[Individual-members-EL] message to the el board, secretariat, wg trade unionists on SEAT-VW HUNGER STRIKE

Dear comrades,

 

Following the passionate debate of these days in our mailing lists,

 

Please, read the communicate down here that I translated into English.
It was sent from Diosdado Toledano, hunger striker, anti-francois
resistant, and comrade of Izquierda Unida from Barcelona.

 

Here there is a cause which call our attention. 

 

In Brussels we organised one year ago a meeting between the strikers of
VW-Brussels and VW-SEAT thanks to support of the EL office.

 

I think that the Trade Union Network, the EL bureau and its President
should take a stand on this question. 

 

VW is a German company where the State has a golden share and is about
to be privatised to return to the grandson of Porsche.

 

There is a national debate in Germany about how to change the national
law of VW after the European Court of Justice declared illegal the
previous national law which elaborated the governance of this
state-owned company.

 

VW has subsidiaries in many of the countries of Europe, more
particularly in those who hold the Presidency of the European Union in
the past, Portugal, Slovenia, or will have so, Tchech Republic, etc. 

 

I see impossible that a German President of the EL could not take an
stand on which kind of state-owned status and role the EL wishes for an
European multinational like VW, and this more particularly after the
scandal of corruption in which was involved the representatives of the
IG Metall and the former Personnel director of VW, the infamous Hartz of
the Hartz laws, by which he was condemned in trial. 

 

For information these people were illegally sacked, according to the
trial results of the labour Courts in Spain. Even worst, the trade
unions of SEAT participated in the drafting of the people to be sacked.
Esquerra Unida i Alternativa is member of the Government of Catalunya,
which is supposedly a Left-wing government. 

 

Is another Left possible in Europe?  Let hope that Lothar Bisky will
demonstrate this with a clear stand on this case, which could be a test
case of Social Europe he has called for in Greece.
