In response to Syed's points, briefly:

We have a specific process of political and economic integration taking place across most of Europe, between countries of (broadly) comparable economic levels, with (broadly) comparable political institutions (multi-party parliamentary systems). We have a body, the EU, which is driving that process of integration forward, largely in the interests of capital. It therefore makes sense for the real left forces (including, but not only, communists) to try to pool their efforts in a single organisation.

The situation in other parts of the world, particularly places like Pakistan, is quite different. The left there has a very different set of problems and challenges. We can and should show solidarity with, for example, Pakistani struggles for democracy and so on. But it is difficult enough to organise a transnational party within Europe. A world party is just a dream.
