BAYER-Gefahren hat heute bei der Welthandelsorganisation WTO gegen das von den
USA angestrengte Verfahren gegen die EU protestiert. Präsident Bush sieht in dem
europäischen Moratorium für den Anbau gentechnisch veränderter Organismen (GVO)
einen Wettbewerbsnachteil für amerikanische Konzerne und hatte daher Klage
eingereicht. Wenn die WTO der Klage stattgibt, muss nicht nur die EU die Einfuhr
und den Anbau von GVOs erlauben. Der Klagefall dient auch als Drohung an andere
Länder, keine Gesetze gegen Genfood einzuführen.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

style="mso-fareast-font-family: 'MS Mincho'">Das Vorgehen der US-Regierung dient
dabei besonders den Interessen eines deutschen Unternehmens: die Leverkusener
BAYER AG ist seit der Übernahme von Aventis CropScience größter europäischer
Anbieter von gentechnisch modifizierten Getreide-Sorten, Raps, Mais und Soja und
ist selbst auf dem amerikanischen Markt die Nummer zwei. Kein Unternehmen führt
in Europa so viele Feldversuche mit Gen-Pflanzen durch wie das neue Unternehmen
BAYER CROPSCIENCE. Und kein Konzern wird nach einem etwaigen Ende des
europäischen Moratoriums eine größere Kontrolle darüber ausüben, was Landwirte
anbauen und was VerbraucherInnen essen werden. <o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

Coordination gegen BAYER-Gefahren: "Die WTO-Klage ist ein Beispiel dafür, wie
Konzerne ihre Interessen über die Köpfe der Menschen hinweg durchsetzen - in
diesem Fall die BAYER-Monsanto-Connection, die bereits zu Zeiten des
Vietnam-Krieges bei der Produktion von Agent Orange hervorragend funktionierte.
In Australien fand die erste Massendemonstration gegen GenFood statt, in
Großbritannien brachte ein Umfrage lächerliche Prozentwerte für
GenFood-Befürworter. Die Macht der Konzerne muss gebrochen werden!" Anfang
Oktober hatte BAYER einen großen Rückschlag erlebt, als anhaltende Proteste den
Konzern dazu zwangen, in Großbritannien auf Freisetzungsversuche mit
Gen-Pflanzen zu verzichten.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

style="mso-fareast-font-family: 'MS Mincho'">Trotz der gebetsmühlenartig
wiederholten Versicherung der Industrie, dass Gen-Nahrung sicher und
"tausendfach getestet" sei, sind die langfristigen Risiken bis heute völlig
unklar. So verdoppelte sich in den USA seit Einführung von Gen-Pflanzen die Zahl
Nahrungsmittel-induzierter Krankheiten. Auch Allergien stiegen weiter an. Da die
Einführung von Gen-Nahrung durch keine einzige Langzeitstudie begleitet wurde,
weiß niemand, ob diese Entwicklung mit den Pflanzen aus dem Labor zusammen
hängt. Frühere Versprechen ("veränderte Gensequenzen können nicht auf
herkömmliche Pflanzen überspringen") stellten sich samt und sonders als falsch
heraus.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

BAYER-Gefahren ist Teil einer internationalen Kampagne gegen die Durchsetzung
von GenFood, in deren Verlauf Tausende von indischen Bauern vor der
BAYER-Zentrale in Leverkusen demonstrierten, die Büros von BAYER mehrfach
besetzt, das Podium auf der BAYER-Hauptversammlung gestürmt, Tausende von
Unterschriften gesammelt wurden und schließlich die Geheim-Strategie von METRO
und BAYER zur Durchsetzung von GenFood enttarnt wurde. Die CBG nutzt das
Europäische Sozial-Forum, um den Widerstand gegen die Machenschaften der
Gentech-Konzerne zu entwickeln und zu stärken.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>
