Dear all,

the EC, US, Canada and Argentina have submitted their rebuttal 
submission to the GM case last week. We now need to het gold of copies, 
if anyone has access to them please circulate. I have asked the 
Commission to post their submission asap on their website.

The panel has decided to go forward with the 2nd hearing beginning of 
September where parties will have another chance to make their points 
behind closed doors to the WTO panel. In the meantime the panel has come 
to the conclusion to decide only after the 2nd hearing if there will be 
a scientific advisory period. If there will be none, a draft report is 
expected for already end of october and a final report for december. 
Then an appeal phase would start beginning of 2005.

If scientists will be consulted (like in previous cases such as hormone 
beef or asbestos), the process could be significantly prolonged.
