Hallo zusammen,
wie ich von GMWatch erfahre, ist ein gefährliches Biotechnik-Gesetz in
Peru im Peruanischen Parlament beschlossen worden, das sogenannte
"Monsanto-Gesetz", das allerdings der Präsident noch nicht
unterschrieben hat. Deswegen wird darum gebeten, ihn per FAX
aufzufordern, das Gesetz nicht zu unterzeichnen.

Hier die Übersetzung der Nachricht:
Ein gefährliches neues Biotechnik-Gesetz, das Monsanto-Gesetz genannt
wird, wurde übereilt und ohne Diskussion vom Peruanische Parlament
verabschiedet durch eine sehr geringe Anzahl von Parlamentsmitgliedern.

Dieses Gesetz stellt ein großes Risiko dar für die extrem reiche
Biodiversität von Peru, die Nahrungssouveränität des Landes und seiner
indigenen Bevölkerung und den Lebensunterhalt von Kleinbauern, deren
Überleben von der außergewöhnlichen Biodiversität von Kartoffeln, Mais
und anderen Feldfrüchten der Anden und des Amazonasgebiets abhängt.
Viele dieser Feldfüchte haben ihr Entstehungszentrum in Peru und wurden
vor Jahrtausenden für die menschlichen Bedürfnisse gezüchtet. Nun steht
diese Biodiversität, die erhalten und entwickelt wurde, in der Gefahr
genetischer Kontamination, wenn transgene Feldfrüchte in Peru eingeführt
werden.

Es ist bedauerlich, dass die Lobbyarbeit der transnationalen Konzerne
wie Monsanto für die Parlamentarier mehr Gewicht hatte als der
Widerspruch vieler verschiedener Organisationen um Peru und
Lateinamerika, die ihren Protest und ihre Sorgen bezüglich dieses
Gesetzes ausgedrückt haben.

Das Gesetz sieht finanzielle Anreize für die nationalen und
internationalen Firmen vor, die in Peru in die Biotechnologie
investieren wollen.

Peruanerinnen und Peruaner sind in Sorge, dass Peru durch dieses Gesetz
in ein Zentrum von Versuchen mit gentechnisch veränderten Organismen
(GVO) verwandelt wird, das für Versuche mit neuen Technologien,
Feldfrüchten und Merkmalen benutzt werden könnte, die sonst noch
nirgendwo auf der Welt erprobt worden sind.

Die Einführung von gentechnisch veränderten Feldfrüchten wird
wahrscheinlich den Prozess des Verfalls bäuerlicher Betriebe
verschlimmern, was zu einer genetischen Erosion einiger der Feldfrüchte
führen wird, die zur Zeit die Welt ernähren wie Kartoffeln und Mais.

Aus diesen Gründen wird internationale Unterstützung erbeten für die
Kampagne gegen dieses Gesetz. Es muss noch vom Präsidenten des Landes
anerkannt werden.

Dear president,

I have been informed that the General Law for the Promotion of
Biotechnology in Peru, has been pushed through the Peruvian parliament
without discussion and by a very small number of members of parliament
which still is expected to be approved by you.

The introduction of GM crops is likely to exacerbate the process of
deterioration of the peasant economies, which will lead to a genetic
erosion of some of the crops that right now are feeding the world, like
potatoes and corn. So this law endangers the food souvereignty of your
country as well as of the world.

As Peru is famous as a country with an extreme high biodiversity, I am
very concerned by the thought of the possibility that this biodiversity
could be endangered by contamination by GMOs!

Peru would be transformed by this law into a centre of GM
experimentation, used for the testing of new technologies, crops and
traits that have not been tested anywhere else in the world. Do not
endanger the rich biodiversity of your country, conserved and developed
for thousands of years, for the short termed financial sake of very few
people!

I ask you for an answer to my letter.

In appealing to your responsibility for Peru as well as for the world
and hoping that you will decide in conformity to awareness for the
importance of the extreme high value of the biodiversity of your country
as well as with peaceful greetings and with deep respect to your country

Betrifft: Bitte, stimmen Sie nicht dem Allgemeinen Gesetz für die
Förderung von Biotechnologie in Peru (Ley General de  Promocion de la
Biotecnologia en el Peru) zu

Sehr geehrter Präsident,

ich wurde darüber informiert, dass das Allgemeine Gesetz für die
Förderung von Biotechnologie in Peru, übereilt vom Peruanischen
Parlament ohne Diskussion und durch eine sehr geringe Anzahl von
Parlamentsmitgliedern, aber noch Ihre Zustimmung benötigt.

Die Einführung von gentechnisch veränderten Feldfrüchten wird
wahrscheinlich den Prozess des Verfalls bäuerlicher Betriebe
verschlimmern, was zu einer genetischen Erosion einiger der Feldfrüchte
führen wird, die zur Zeit die Welt ernähren wie Kartoffeln und Mais.

gentechnisch veränderten Organismen (GVO) verwandelt werden, das für
Versuche mit neuen Technologien, Feldfrüchten und Merkmalen benutzt
werden könnte, die sonst noch nirgendwo auf der Welt erprobt worden
sind. Gefährden Sie nicht die reiche Biodiversität Ihres Land, die über
Jahrtausende erhalten und gepflegt wurde, für das kurzfristige
finanzielle Wohl weniger Menschen!

Ich bitte Sie um eine Antwort auf meinen Brief.

Indem ich an Ihre Verantwortung für Peru wie für die Welt appelliere und
hoffe, dass Sie in Übereinstimmung mit der Achtsamkeit für die Bedeutung
des extrem hohen Werts der Biodiversität Ihres Landes entscheiden
werden, und mit friedlichen Grüßen und tiefem Respekt vor ihrem Land

A dangerous new biotech law, which is being called the "Monsanto Law" in
Peru, has been pushed through the Peruvian parliament without discussion
and by a very small number of members of parliament.

This law puts at great risk the extremely rich biodiversity of Peru, the
food sovereignty of the country and of its indigenous peoples and the
livelihoods of small farmers who depend on the extraordinary
biodiversity of potatoes, corn, and other Andean and Amazonian crops for
their survival.  Many of these crops have their centre of origin in
Peru, and were domesticated there thousands of years ago. Now this
biodiversity, which has been conserved and developed, is under risk of
genetic contamination, if transgenics crops are introduced into Peru.

It is regrettable that the lobbying of the big transnational
corporations like Monsanto has counted for more with the
parliamentarians than the opposition of the many different organizations
around Peru and Latin America that expressed their opposition and
concern about this law.

The law provides special finantial incentives for the national and
international companies which want to invest in biotechnology in Peru.

Peruvians are concerned that through this law, Peru will be transformed
into a centre of GM experimentation, used for the testing of new
technologies, crops and traits that have not been tested anywhere else
in the world.

The introduction of GM crops is also likely to exacerbate the process of

For these reasons, international support is being sought for the
campaign against this law.  It has to be approved by the President of
