What do you think about the Bolkenstein Draft Directive -
Liberalisation of Services?

Want to sign AGAINST IT?

http://www.stopbolkestein.org/

http://www.stopbolkestein.org/index.cfm?Content_ID=1472851

... I would be interested to hear your comments on it, whether in
favor, or against bolkestein draft directive.

As to not to encumber the FYEG Gen-Mailinglist, if you are interested
I'd like to invite you to post your comments on the Sustainable
Solidarity Mailinglist:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sustainable_solidarity/

or on the wiki page
http://quilombo.collectifs.net/wakka.php?wakka=WhatIsGats ( feel free
to add your links )

or on the (english) brussels attac Bolkestein mailinglist:
http://wb.attac.be/article358.html

I'd be interested to hear your comments, and eventually, would be
interested to hear if we did something in relation to this directive
draft in our countries and regions, and/or DO WE WANT TO DO SOMETHING
ABOUT IT? ... Did I miss any conversation relating to this within
FYEG and the greens in general?

<<The Dutch presidency is thinking of organizing an orientation debate
on the draft directive during the competitiveness Council on 25th and
26th November.>>

<< At the instigation of the former European Commissioner Frits
Bolkenstein (a Dutch liberal), a draft directive (European law) on the
free circulation of services within the European Union is currently
under discussion.
If adopted, this European directive would result in the
merchandisation of all services within the Union. This would mean that
essential sectors such as culture, education, health care and all
services relating to national social welfare systems could be exposed
to the same forms of economic competition as commercial goods. >>

I knew a bit about bolkestein and gats, but not completely in detail.

So I searched a bit. Here are some more links I found on the subject:

interesting explanatory and critical webpages about GATS in english
http://www.libr.org/GATS/    ;
http://www.gatswatch.org/GATSbasics.html

german attac Bolkestein page http://www.attac.de/bolkestein/ and
austrian anti-gats page http://www.stoppgats.at/ ( both in german )

a french socialists explanatory text on bolkestein directive draft
http://www.democratie-socialisme.org/article.php3?id_article=438 ( in
french )

( incase you'd like to propose some more links , or even if you'd like
to balance these current links by adding "pro-gats" pages, I'd like to
welcome you to add them on this wiki page:
http://quilombo.collectifs.net/wakka.php?wakka=WhatIsGats )

I do know about another case Bolkestein has been pushing for...
"Software Patents":
http://swpat.ffii.org/players/bolkestein/index.en.html

We talked about software patents on this mailinglist already. I hope
we all signed it ;-) http://petition.eurolinux.org/index_html?LANG=en

I repeat: I'd be happy to read your comments, and eventually, would be
interested to hear about what we did about this directive draft in our
countries and regions, and/or DO WE WANT TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?
... Did I miss any conversation relating to this within FYEG and the
greens in general?

Speak to you soon,

Dante.
