Dear Friends,

A summit entitled "European Youth is Discussing the Accession of Turkey" is going to take place on 11-12 December 2004, a week before the EU Council Summit. It is organised by Local Agenda 21 National Youth Parliament in cooperation with Sisli Municipality in Istanbul and supported by Program Partners of Local Agenda 21. We expect to gather around 160 participants from Europe ( National Youth Councils, youth NGOs, Youth Related Institutions, academicians etc.) and Turkey. You can find attached the briefing document of the Summit (vision and objective) and the tentative program. The summit will have panels and discussions on various aspects of TR-EU Relations and on topics related to membership, intercultural dialogue; will allow space for young people from Turkey and EU Member states to interact; include various promotional activities about Turkey to allow young people to know more about Turkey. It also contains some moments for young people to dialogue with key officials in Turkey on EU (i.e. Minister of Foreign Affairs, if he participates). You may find more information about the summit in the attached documents.

We would be happy to invite you to participate in the summit during which the youth from Turkey and the European Union member countries as well as candidate countries for accession will find a chance to develop a civil dialogue and share their opinions; their expectations and reservations about the accession and integration of Turkey. The summit will provide a platform where youth policies both in Turkey and in the European Union will be considered at length with the authorities and several organizations working in the field of youth; improving the participation of youth to the decision- making process and enabling them to speak-out through the means of organizational culture. That will also provide an opportunity to overview the existing situation of the youth and the youth policies in Turkey and the European Union on a comparative basis.

In addition, there will be excursions to Istanbul and stage performances at nights.

More information will be coming soon. Please do not hesitate to contact us for any questions.

We would very much appreciate if you could respond to us as soon as possible if you are interested in participating in the summit since time to arrange practical matters are very tight. Please note that travel costs of the selected participants will be covered. Board and lodging will also be provided during the event. Please fill in the form attached return back by fax or e-mail at latest 19 November 2004.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

With Best Wishes,
