Dear Friends and Comrades,

Welcome to Activist Network's newsletter (number 12). This weeks contents
are:

1. Socialist Song Update
2. New Literature Section on Activist Network
3. Please Sign The Agent Orange Petition
4. Hiroshima Week 2004
5. Radical Dates For Your Diary

1) A-Z Radical Song Update
A big thanks to all of you who've taken the time and trouble to send
suggestions for inclusions in Activist Network's A-Z of Radical Song . We're
working on an online form that should make submitting suggestions and/or
lyrics easier. Watch this space for further details. Please keep your
suggestions coming.

The reference to socialist choirs in last week's newsletter generated a
great deal of interest. There are currently 3 such ensembles active and with
websites listed in the music section of Activist Network: Sheffield
Socialist Choir, the Clarion Choir based in Nottingham and Côr Cochion
Caerdydd (or Cardiff Reds Choir).

2) New Literature and Writers Section on Activist Network
Radical Writers and Literature is a new part of the Art and Music Section of
Activist Network. For the moment it just contains the 'usual suspects' (eg
Robert Tressel, Shelley etc.) Please feel free to suggest anything else. You
will also notice that women are badly unrepresented, please help to rectify
this by submitting suitable sites for inclusion.

3) Please Take A Minute To Sign A Petition Against Agent Orange
Agent Orange is a defoliant used extensively by the Americans in their
waging of the Vietnam War. It's a weapon of mass destruction whose effects
are still being felt today. Over 3 million people in South East Asia suffer
from an exceptionally high incidence of certain cancers and have their
babies born with similarly high rate of birth defects. Now over a quarter of
a century after the wars end, 3 Vietnamese victims of the chemical weapons
indiscriminate use are seeking justice by taking the 35 American companies
who produced Agent Orange to court.

Please take a minute of your time to help them by clicking through and
signing the petition in support of them.

4) Hiroshima Week 2004

Next week sees the 59th anniversary of the use of atomic weapons on
Hiroshima (next Friday August 6th) and Nagasaki (next Sunday, August 8th).
As ever, CND and various other peace groups will be organising a series of
events of remembrance throughout the country. There will be a comprehensive
list in next weeks Activist Network Newsletter. Until then you can click
through to the link below in order to see what's happening in your area. If
your groups' event doesn't feature please don't forget to post the details.
