Young Women from Minorities
Social Exclusion and Minority Women's Health.

Study session in cooperation with the European Youth Centre Budapest

Budapest, Hungary, 11-18 May 2003

Social exclusion has a significant impact on minority women. In many communities, whether in a minority or majority community, the health of women is seen as secondary in priority. Our activities to date have shown that the need for developing the awareness and support of Young minority women's health issues are important. We strive in this activity to address the Human and women's Rights issues since it is important and relevant of minority women's development in Europe.

The aim of this study session is to empower young minority women in regard to their health and raise awareness about the link between social exclusion and health.

The objectives are:

R      To look at what kind of health problems do minority young women face and what are the causes;

R      To exchange experiences, realities and practices related to minority women's health issues and how it's perceived by minority women;

R      To analyse and explore the issues that effect minority women's health such as: sexuality, cultures, tradition and discrimination;

R      To Raise awareness of minority women's body and health condition;

R To find what are the resources provide by society regarding health issues and how it's perceived by minority women.

The study session methodology will be participant-orientated. The input of experience from participants as minorities and as women are crucial elements of the direction of the methodology. Group-work and simulation exercises will be used: these will be complemented by lectures , which will provide an overview and analysis of the issues .
