jemenitischen Aktivist_Innen ein.<br>
<br>
Die Runde "<b>Jemen: Vom arabischen Frühling zum internationalen
Stellvertreterkrieg</b>" wird von Jonas Ecke moderiert, ein
promovierten Anthropologen, der im Jahr 2022 im Jemen im Bereich
der humanitären Hilfe tätig war. </p>

Frühling die Forderungen der jemenitischen Zivilgesellschaft in
der Diaspora vertritt<br>

<p>Eine breite Koalition tausender Jemeniten begann 2011, inspiriert
durch die hoffnungsvollen Ereignisse des arabischen Frühlings, auf
den Straßen jemenitischer Städte für ein Ende der Herrschaft des
Präsidenten Ali Abdullah Salih, der das Land für mehr als 30 Jahre
regierte, und eine Verbesserung der Lebensumstände zu kämpfen. Die
politischen Verstrickungen, die sich aus diesen Ereignissen
ergaben, trugen zum Ausbruch eines brutalen internationalen
Stellvertreterkriegs bei, an dem regionale und globale Mächte
beteiligt waren. Dieser Krieg führte während der Kampfhandlungen
zwischen 2015 und 2022 nach Angaben der Vereinten Nationen zur
„größten humanitären Krise der Welt.“<br>

Wie konnte es dazu kommen?<br>
<br>
Alle deutschen Beiträge während der Diskussion, die unter die <a
href="https://www.chathamhouse.org/about-us/chatham-house-rule">Chatham-House-Regel</a>
stattfindet, werden ins Englische übersetzt, und alle englischen
ins Deutsche.<br>

<b>Yemen: From the Arab Spring to International Proxy War</b><br>
<br>
We invite our friends and colleagues to an evening discussion with
Berlin based Yemeni activists on <b>Thursday, April 25th, 18.00 </b>at
the r0g_agency’s OPEN CULTURE OFFICE, Knobelsdorffstr. 22, 14059
Berlin-Charlottenburg. The discussion will be moderated by PhD
anthropologist Jonas Ecke, who worked in Yemen in the field of
humanitarian assistance in 2022. His guests are: <br>
<br>
<b>Mohamed Al-Thawr </b>– activist who has amplified demands of
Yemeni civil society in the diaspora since the Arab Spring<br>
<br>
<b>Reem Jarhum</b> – Berlin-based digital media and conflict
mitigation strategist, currently facilitating community dialogues
for the Yemen Discussion Board, a solution-oriented space on
Clubhouse<br>
<br>
<b>Feda Alkashi </b>– social media influencer who writes on
historical and religious topics for an Arab audience<br>
<br>
In 2011, a broad coalition of thousands of Yemenis began taking to
the streets of Yemeni cities to demand an end to the rule of
President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who had governed the country for
more than 30 years, and to advocate for improved living
conditions, inspired by the hopemoderiertful events of the Arab
Spring. The political entanglements arising from these events
contributed to the outbreak of a brutal international proxy war
involving regional and global powers. According to the United
Nations, this war led to the "worst humanitarian crisis in the
world" during the hostilities between 2015 and 2022.<br>
<br>
How did this come about?<br>
<br>
The event, which will be held under the <a
href="https://www.chathamhouse.org/about-us/chatham-house-rule">Chatham
House Rule</a>, is in connection to the photo exhibition by
Jonas Ecke, "Yemen: 'Arabia Felix' in the Crossfire of
Geopolitics" in the Leichten Bau Gallery (Knobelsdorffstr. 23)
across the street from the Open Culture Office. <br>
<br>
All German contributions during the discussion will be translated
into English, and all English contributions into German.<br>
<br>
