The first study is dedicated to the question of media literacy in the context of a fragmented and volatile media environment. A total of 2,982 interviews were conducted around the country in order to better understand if, and how, Iraqi media users combine different sources and to what extent they reflect bias and partiality of the local media channels. </div><div class=""><div class=""><p class="MsoNormal">In contrast to the common assumption that media use in Iraq follows strictly ethno-sectarian patterns, the study reveals that most of the domestic TV channels reach both Shiite and Sunni target groups. The aim was to understand if <span class="" style="font-family: 'MS Gothic';">
</span>the notoriously partisan Iraqi media channels offer a variety of views on contested issues and how they differ from one another in the coverage of these issues. The researchers looked at 49 evening news bulletins in seven different channels, during August 2015. The study shows that to a certain extent Iraqi TV channels include contesting frames on even the most divisive of issues, such as government reform and the fall of Mosul.
