Bedrohungen wie wirtschaftlicher Druck, Gesetzgebungen, langwierige

Presse- und Medienfreiheit (ECPMF) hat deshalb ein Schutzprogramm ins Leben
gerufen, das unter Druck geratenen europäischen Journalisten vorübergehend
einen sicheren Arbeitsort in Leipzig bietet. Das ECPMF stellt eine Unterkunft,
ein monatliches Stipendium, eine Krankenversicherung und einen Arbeitsplatz. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;
text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph;mso-outline-level:3"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;mso-ansi-language:DE">„Immer wieder geraten Journalisten,
die sensible Themen anpacken, in das Visier der Mächtigen. Die Liste der
europäischen Journalisten, die derzeit oder in der Vergangenheit bedroht wurden
oder werden ist lang und wächst ständig. Darunter Anna Politkowskaja, Roberto
Saviano, Hans-Martin Tillack, Oleg Kashin, Dušan Miljuš, Khadija Ismajilowa, um
nur Einige zu nennen“, erklärt Lutz Mükke, Managing Director des ECPMF.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;

Journalisten nur die Option, ihr Land für eine Zeit zu verlassen und aus der
Schusslinie zu gehen. Es ist dann die einzige Möglichkeit, um ihre Arbeit
fortzusetzen und vor dem Gefängnis beschützt zu werden. Unser Programm kann
stark gefährdete Kollegen von permanentem Druck befreien und die Aufmerksamkeit

Ort im Kampf für Presse- und Meinungsfreiheit – können die Journalisten
zwischen sechs und zwölf Monaten leben und arbeiten, je nach Einzelfall und
Bedrohungslage. Alle Reise- und Visakosten sowie Krankenversicherung und
Unterkunft auf dem Gelände der Medienstiftung der Sparkasse Leipzig übernimmt
das ECPMF. Darüber hinaus erhalten die Journalisten ein monatliches Stipendium
in Höhe von 1000 Euro und die Möglichkeit, über das ECPMF zu
veröffentlichen. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;
text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph;mso-outline-level:3"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;mso-ansi-language:DE">Journalisten, die sich für das
Programm bewerben möchten, müssen bestimmte Kriterien erfüllen. Unter anderem
sollten sie bereits seit mindestens fünf Jahren investigativ arbeiten und einen
Nachweis über ihre Gefahrensituation erbringen. Sie sollten keiner bestimmten politischen
Bewegung angehören und möglichst in der Lage sein, nach dem Programm in ihrem
Heimatland ihre Arbeit für die Pressefreiheit fortzusetzen. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;
text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph;mso-outline-level:3"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;mso-ansi-language:DE">Die erste Bewerbungsrunde hat
begonnen. Die Kandidaten werden von den ECPMF-Vorständen, denen erfahrene Journalisten,
Wissenschaftler, Gewerkschafter und Juristen angehören, ausgewählt. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;

hat sich das ECPMF Unterstützung von den erfahrenen Organisationen
International City of Refugee Network (ICORN) und der Hamburger Stiftung für

einfach und stellen eine Organisation vor große Herausforderungen, vor allem
personell. Die Menschen, die in einem Schutzprogramm aufgenommen werden sind
oft traumatisiert und blicken in eine unsichere Zukunft. Zudem können viele die
Sprache des Gastlandes nicht. Deshalb ist viel Einsatz und Fingerspitzengefühl
nötig“, erklärt Peter Ripken, Vorsitzender von ICORN, das mehr als 50
europäische Städte vertritt. „Wir freuen uns deshalb über jede neue Initiative
und eine Zusammenarbeit mit bisherigen Projekten. Denn ein starkes Netzwerk

(European Centre for Press and Media Freedom) in Leipzig. Unter anderem gehören
die European Federation of Journalists, Index on Censorship, Scoop,
Journalisten helfen Journalisten, Axel Springer SE, die Media Legal Defence
Initiative, Westminster University, Gruner + Jahr, Journalismfund und SEEMO zu
