Der ehemalige Reporter der Nachrichtenagentur <i>Turan</i> berichtet seit 2006 über die Bürgerproteste gegen das aserbaidschanische Regime. Dabei wurde er mehrmals angegriffen und 2008 vorübergehend festgenommen. Das IRFS berichtet regelmäßig über Einschränkungen journalistischer Arbeit in Aserbaidschan. Kürzlich wurde das Institut durch das Justizministerium verwarnt, weil es Informationen über die Autonome Republik Nachitschewan veröffentlicht hatte. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"NewsGoth BT","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-family:"NewsGoth BT","sans-serif"'>Rasul Jafarow</span></b><span style='font-family:"NewsGoth BT","sans-serif"'> ist seit 2007 in aserbaidschanischen NGOs aktiv, die sich für Pressefreiheit einsetzen. Schwerpunkt seiner Arbeit sind Medienbeobachtung und das Recht auf freie Informationsbeschaffung. 2009 gründete er das <i>Zentrum zur Entwicklung des Fernsehens und alternativer Medien</i>. Als Vorsitzender des Bakuer Menschenrechtsclubs (HRC) koordiniert Jafarow die Kampagne „Sing for Democracy“. Sie will den Eurovision Song Contest nutzen, um auf Menschenrechtsverletzungen in Aserbaidschan aufmerksam zu machen.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"NewsGoth BT","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-family:"NewsGoth BT","sans-serif"'>Markus Löning</span></b><span style='font-family:"NewsGoth BT","sans-serif"'> ist seit April 2010 Beauftragter der Bundesregierung für Menschenrechtspolitik und Humanitäre Hilfe.
