Oktober 2007 wurde gleichzeitig in über 30 Ländern der Programmschwerpunkt „Why
Democracy? / Demokratie – für alle?“ ausgestrahlt. Zehn Dokumentarfilme und 24
Kurzfilme gehören zu dem ambitionierten Projekt, an dem <SPAN
class=articletexte>FernsehredakteurInnen aus England, Dänemark, Finnland,
Deutschland und Frankreich, sowie zwei ProduzentInnen aus Südafrika und Dänemark
beteiligt waren. Für ihr Engagement wurde die Gruppe für den Grimme-Preis
Spezial im Bereich Information & Kultur 2008 nominiert. In ihren Filmen
geben Autorinnen und Autoren Einblicke in das Demokratieverständnis
verschiedener Ländern oder gehen anhand aktueller Entwicklungen der schwierigen
Umsetzung demokratischer Verhältnisse nach. In den Kurzfilmen – entstanden in
Kooperation mit dem Talentcampus der Berlinale und dem Goethe-Institut – setzen
junge FilmemacherInnen ihre Auseinandersetzung mit Demokratie teils in sehr
persönliche Betrachtungen um. Um die Internetpräsenz kümmerten sich junge
Medienleute aus aller Welt, die für einige Wochen im Whydemocracy-Haus in
Kapstadt zusammen gekommen waren, um Fragen zu formulieren, über die Themen des
Projekts zu diskutieren und sie weltweit zu
kommunizieren.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></SPAN></P>

die Filme gesendet und von schätzungsweise 150 Millionen Menschen gesehen
wurden, ist das Projekt noch nicht abgeschlossen. Es folgt die
medienpädagogische Aufarbeitung und die Weiterarbeit mit den fertigen Filmen und
den Themen, die sie behandeln – auch dies im globalen
Kontext.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></SPAN></P>

nach der Umsetzung des komplexen Projektes und seinem Anspruch, die
Auseinandersetzung mit demokratischen Werten weltweit im Fernsehen zu führen,
sowie nach der medienpädagogischen Begleitung und den Bedingungen, die hierfür
in den verschiedenen Ländern – besonders des Südens – zur Verfügung stehen,
stehen im Mittelpunkt des Workshops.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></SPAN></P>
