<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Monaco">theme of Highway Africa. After ten years of looking into journalism in</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Monaco">"the information society", the most important African journalism event</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Monaco">turned 11. Does this maturity call for more professionalism in media</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Monaco">practice?</FONT>

<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Monaco">APC was on the ground in Grahamstown, South Africa, to participate in</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Monaco">the event. A small team reported on the state of African blogging and</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Monaco">the way in which Africa's upcoming generation of media movers and</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Monaco">shakers are using information and communication technologies (ICTs).</FONT>
</P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Monaco">This year's Highway Africa lasted from September 10 to 12 and was</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Monaco">preceded by the second edition of the Digital Citizen Indaba, a</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Monaco">blogging-specific one-day gathering. More than 600 participants came</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Monaco">from East, West and Southern African countries to speak at</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Monaco">presentations, launch books and network. Some even walked away with an</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Monaco">award...</FONT>

<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Monaco">APC presented a national broadband internet study, talked about our</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Monaco">efforts to lower the price and increase access to internet in Africa and</FONT>
