auch vereinzelt Diskussionen um die sozialen und ökologischen Folgen der
massenhaften Verbreitung von Informationstechnologien geführt werden, gilt die
Computer-Branche doch weithin als „sauber“. PCs sind Symbol einer
entmaterialisierten Welt des globalen Cyberspace. Tatsächlich werden sie jedoch
in einem hoch material- und energieintensiven Produktionsprozess in globalen
Wertschöpfungsketten hergestellt, deren einzelne Stationen nur schwer
nachzuvollziehen sind. Die Wertschöpfungskette ist durchzogen von
gesundheitsgefährdenden Arbeitsbedingungen und Belastungen durch zahlreiche
Schadstoffe, denen die in den Zulieferunternehmen beschäftigten ArbeiterInnen
ausgesetzt sind. Im Endprodukt nicht sichtbar sind darüber hinaus der für die
Produktion notwendige hohe Ressourcenverbrauch und die starke Umweltbelastung
durch eingesetzte Chemikalien. Schließlich werden PCs nach vielfach kurzer
Nutzungsdauer als Elektroschrott nach Südostasien und Afrika exportiert.

zweiten Werkstattgespräch im Rahmen des Projekts PC Global möchte WEED sich den
sozial-ökologischen Problemen in der Computer-Branche widmen, ohne dabei soziale
und umweltpolitische Aspekte voneinander zu trennen. Verfolgt werden soll die
gesamte Wertschöpfungskette von der Rohstoffgewinnung über den
Produktionsprozess bis zur Verschrottung. Im Werkstattgespräch sollen
ExpertInnen aus Wissenschaft und Praxis ihre Erkenntnisse über ökologische
Probleme in der Computer-Branche diskutieren und sich über Handlungsalternativen
austauschen. </SPAN><st1:PersonName><SPAN

einzelne Aspekte, wie Regulierungsmöglichkeiten und ihre Grenzen,
Umweltgerechtigkeit und Handlungsoptionen durch Beiträge der Teilnehmenden
ergänzt und vertiefend diskutiert werden. <o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>
