Since 2007, Misereor's partner organisation ASTAC has been an industry trade union committed to defending workers' rights and the rights of nature, as well as to ensuring gender equality in Ecuador's banana sector. Working with its more than 3,000 members, ASTAC carries out national and international campaigns. Expanding its media presence, in particular via social media, ensures continuous communication with international players. This promotes transparent presentation of and education about the links between prices in Europe and working conditions in Ecuador and will give ASTAC the chance to strengthen employment rights in Ecuador by building international pressure.
